I'm Climbing the CN Tower for the Animals That Can't Choose Their Neighbourhood
TL;DR: On May 2nd, I'm climbing 1,776 steps up the CN Tower for WWF Canada's Climb for Nature. I've raised $522 so far. My goal is $1,000. Every dollar goes toward protecting and restoring wildlife habitats across Canada.
We are all neighbours. That's not a slogan. It's just true.
It's true on your street, on your block, in your building. It's true between the person who moved here last year and the one who's been here for forty. And it's true in a way most of us don't think about nearly enough: between us and every living thing that shares this land.
We didn't invent neighbourhoods. We just claimed them. The birds, the beavers, the bears, the insects quietly running the whole ecosystem from the background -- they were here long before anyone drew a property line or broke ground on a condo. They are our neighbours in the oldest, truest sense. They can't read a listing. They can't negotiate. They can't move when development encroaches on their habitat. They are just there, doing their thing, depending on us to not wreck it.
I spend my days selling the idea that where you live shapes who you are. That neighbourhood matters. That the street, the green space, the community around you -- all of it counts. It took me a while to sit with the uncomfortable extension of that belief: if neighbourhood matters, it matters for everyone. Not just the people who can afford to choose.
That's why on May 2nd, I'm climbing 1,776 steps up Toronto's CN Tower for WWF Canada's annual Climb for Nature.
Why the CN Tower
I've wanted to do this climb for years. There's something that feels right about it -- Toronto's CN Tower is one of the most recognizable structures on the planet, a symbol of this city I sell every single day. Standing at the top of it, having earned that view one step at a time, while raising money for the wild spaces that exist beyond Toronto's skyline? That's a pretty good Saturday.
The climb has been running for 34 years and has sent tens of thousands of people up those stairs. In 2025 alone, climbers took a combined 11 million-plus steps for nature. This year I get to be one of them.
Where Your Donation Goes
Funds raised support WWF Canada's Regenerate Canada plan, which is a 10-year commitment to:
Restore at least one million hectares of complex ecosystems for wildlife habitat
Steward at least 100 million hectares of vital ecosystems for wildlife and communities
Reduce carbon emissions by 30 million tonnes through habitat restoration and protection
These aren't abstract goals. They're the difference between a Canada that still has wild spaces in 50 years and one that doesn't.
Will You Help Me Get to $1,000?
I'm at $522 raised and I want to hit $1,000 before I take that first step on May 2nd. If you've ever loved an animal, spent time in nature, or simply believe that the planet's other residents deserve a fighting chance at a decent neighbourhood too -- this one's for you.
Even $10 makes a difference. Donate to my climb here.
I'll report back with a view from the top and significantly tired legs.
Much love from, Your Home Girl
